Cupcakes and Crocheting

This past Saturday was our second DIY class.
Olivia taught a class how to crochet this adorable cupcake:

First, the "icing" color was picked...

...followed by hands on instruction from Olivia on how to construct the little guys.
Everyone did so great.

The class was filled mostly with people with no crocheting experience at all!

A little sweet treat for everyone...cupcakes of course.

Here are some of the completed cupcakes.

Stay tuned for more crochet classes coming up in 2012 from Olivia!

Eugenia Woods will be teaching a class on how to spruce up those old heels in time for New Years Eve.  Get ready for tons of glitter and lace!
More information to come very soon.

Oh Strumpets!

My friend Olivia, and her friend Becky have teamed up and created this adorable website called Oh Strumpets!
They sell handmade items ranging from crocheted animal ornaments (my personal fav is the green bear named Kramer) to Afghan blankets to greeting cards.
I already have the Quit Elf'n Around Christmas cards and can't wait to send them to my friends.

Check out their site, you won't regret it!

The GREAT BIG COOKIE!

I entered a baking contest at work and used this recipe to make it.
It is nothing short of incredible.

Lots of butter...

...and chocolate of course.

Best part (well, other than eating it)?  You mix it all together with your hands!

Liz was right when she said the hardest part is waiting.
I shoved mine in the fridge to speed up the process like she recommended.

Its the kind of cookie you can eat till your stomach hurts...and keep going.

Thank you, Olivia, for sharing this recipe with me!

DIY Feather Sweater

Last week, I saw this AMAZING feather sweater from Anthropologie.
Photo from Anthro website.

The price?  Hm, not so much in my budget.

So I decided to take my thrifty self to Goodwill to get a cute sweater, $4.00.

I also picked up some feathers from Michaels (3 bags, $3 each)...not bad!
Oh, and a $0.29 piece of tan felt.

Next, cut two strips of felt (about 1/2in thick and about 5in long, I eyeballed).

Then, get sewing!  I just did a quick stitch to align the feathers the way I wanted them on the felt.  You will run this through the machine to get them on there good and tight.  I suppose you could use glue but, for the sake of quality, I sewed., like so:

The back will look something like this:
Doesn't have to be perfect!

Then, run 'em through the machine.

They will look something like this:

Now, fold each piece in half to find the center point and pin to your sweater.

Hand stitch the felt/feather piece to the shoulders of your sweater and VOILA!

Cute, right?
Totalling in around $15.00 it's a great way to get the expensive look without spending too much!

I am going to wear this beast as soon as the weather chills a bit with some black cigarette pants and sparkely shoes.

Runway Video ala Rob

The boy made an amazing video of the fashion show from a few weeks back...

Check it out!

Zombies and Such...

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween.

Rebekah was kind enough to do my makeup to look like this
Ever since I saw the makeup on Sunday, it's all I've been able to think about.
She did such a wonderful job!

Bek, making me up.  She'd already been zombiefied.

A few finishing touches for both of us...

...and voila!
Mom joined in on the fun, too.

What a great night.  We walked around our neighborhood all gruesome and such and saw all the great decorations.  If you don't follow already, I am on Instagram (Rach0999) and posted some great pics of the neighborhoods decorations.

Fun times!
